It took the combined efforts of well armed soldiers and policemen to stop the Christmas day violence that occurred in Bwari area, an Abuja suburb.
The violence, it was gathered, left some people dead with many others injured.
Although the cause of the violence could not be immediately ascertained, it was between the Gbagyi natives and Hausa residents of Bwari area.
In the wake of the violence, the major markets and some residences in the town were burnt down.
It would be recalled that the turbanning of a new Hausa traditional leader in the town as “Sarkin Bwari” led to a crisis recently.
This, it was gathered, was because the new ruler came from a different lineage from the Gbagyi people who own the title of traditional ruler, “Esu Bwari.”
The Gbagyi people were said to have accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello, and others of preventing the natives from being the traditional ruler of the town.
